> So Greg might still be a twat, but the one thing that you actually can't accuse him of is obliviousness towards his own behaviour.
I don't think so. The author of the blog projects their own view onto the situation. As they say, when they were a kid they took it at face value. So Greg could also draw the situation without inferring that he is being a twat.
A kid will smear ketchup and spaghetti on the carpet because he has to watch YouTube while eating. Then he will merilly (having seen that mess) complain to his mom who has been sick for two days about something she can’t do anything about since she is sick. Then he will blast his phone game at full volume even though someone told him three times that dad has a migraine. “Sorry.” Then he will complain to his mom that their sister has got to play for a million more minutes than them today and it’s not fair. Dad complains about the noise again. “Okay sorry! Jeez!!!” Then teenage brother will make dinner but he’s not hungry. Then when it’s twenty minutes to bedime he’s hungry. But it has to be potato fries with ketchup. Then he says thanks for the food because his mom scolded him for not saying that at lunch and he doesn’t have time for that nagging. Then it’s bedtime but he doesn’t want to go to bed. Then he plays with his sister instead. Then he punches his sister and lies about how she punched him first. Then past-bedtime playtime turns into mutual harrassment. Then dad says that they have to go to bed. Then he smiles and runs into the bathroom and locks the door and tries to play on his phone. Then dad locks the phone. Then he cries that no one loves him.
The sister who is about the same age will think and complain that he is a twat. But being a twat is just what other people can be. It cannot enter into her or her brother’s mind that they are twats.
Because I am me. Others are various degrees of being in the way of what I want.
They are perfectly self-aware.
